Euro wins for Chelsea and Man Utd

Nicolas Anelka and Paul Scholes

Chelsea and Manchester United have started well in their Champions League campaigns, with both teams notching up 1-0 wins in their first games.

Nicolas Anelka was Chelsea's hero. His second-half goal was enough to see off Porto at Stamford Bridge.

United beat Turkish side Besiktas with Paul Scholes scoring the winner.

Their goal came after Wayne Rooney had been substituted. The striker was really angry and threw his boot against the ground when he was taken off.

Neither of the two English sides were at their best but both be happy to have begun their efforts for Champions League glory with wins.

On Wednesday the other three British teams in the competition - Rangers, Arsenal and Liverpool - kick off their attempts to lift the European Cup.
