Federer loses US Open title

Juan Martin del Potro and Roger Federer

There was a big shock at the final of the US Open after Roger Federer was beaten by Argentina's Juan Martin del Potro.

Federer had won the competition 5 times in a row and was expected to go on to get his sixth title.

But del Potro was too strong for the world number one and won the match in a five set thriller which lasted over four hours.

It's the first time Federer has lost against the 20-year-old Argentinian.

After the match Federer said: "I would like to congratulate Juan Martin on an unbelievable tournament. I had a great one but he was the best."

Federer has had an amazing run at the US Open, winning the previous 40 matches he's played there.

Del Potro was sixth seed in the competition. He said: "I had two dreams this week. One was to win the US Open and the other one is to be like Roger."

As he was looking at Federer he added: "One is done, but I need to improve a lot to be like you."
