Hurricane Jimena hits Mexico

Hurricane Jimena hits Mexico

Hurricane Jimena has hit the Mexican tourist resort of Los Cabos causing power cuts and damaging roads.

Strong winds measuring 115 miles per hour lashed the town, but because of careful planning loads of people have already been evacuated from the area.

It's thought the resort has avoided the worst of the storm, but it will probably cause problems as it moves on.

So far, no injuries or major damage have been reported, but shelters have been set up just in case.

The Government has declared a state of emergency for Los Cabos, and the state capital of La Paz. Schools and most businesses have closed.

Rescue workers and the Mexican military are prepared for hurricane disaster relief and two Mexican army planes have flown in medical supplies.
