Competitors at the birdman competition in Worthing took to the sky wearing homemade costumes and machines which were meant to help them fly.

A massive £30,000 was the jackpot on offer to any of the high flyers who manage to swoop more than 100m over the sea, using their own specially modified flying kit.

Steve Elkins came the closest in his home-made glider, travelling 99.8m - just a few centimetres short of winning the money prize.
