Potter-style moving pics in magazines

Ron, Hermione and Harry in the Half-Blood Prince

You've probably seen or read about the moving photos and portraits from the Harry Potter books and films - well now they're now part of the real world!

The first moving adverts will feature in a magazine coming out in September.

The ads are on a slim-line screen about the size of a mobile phone display, and are programmed to play when readers reach the page they're on.

They're going to be in Entertainment Weekly magazine in the US, and will play soft drink adverts and TV clips.

The adverts are just 2.7mm thick, and can store 40 minutes of video.

They've got a battery life of 70 minutes, but can be recharged with a mini-USB connection.

This isn't the first time publishers have experimented with high-tech printing.

Last year a magazine printed its cover using special e-ink, which flashed in different colours.
