Ferrari driver Felipe Massa is to have an operation after hurting his head in a high-speed crash in Hungary.
Massa was taking part in qualifying when a piece of another car that had fallen onto the track bounced up and hit him on the head.
Moments after that happened Massa's car drove off the track and straight into a tyre barrier at a very high speed.
Doctors later said Massa had suffered skull damage, cuts and concussion in the incident.
Ferrari said Massa's condition when he got to the hospital in Budapest was "stable" and that the Brazilian was awake.
Massa was flown to hospital in a helicopter
Ferrari added that Massa will remain "under observation in intensive care" after the operation.
Renault driver Fernando Alonso will start the race from pole position after setting the quickest time in qualifying.
