Teenage diving ace Tom Daley has won gold at the World Championships in the Italian capital Rome.

The 15-year-old was in third place heading into the last round, but pulled off a stunning final dive to win the competition.

He's become Britain's first ever individual diving world champion.

Tom, who was diving in the 10m platform event, has a chance to win a second medal on Saturday in the synchronised event with his partner Max Brick.

Tom came seventh in the 2008 Olympics, but this is the first time he's entered the World Championships.

Diving experts didn't reckon he was one of the favourites in the competition. But Tom's last dive scored him three perfect 10s and three 9.5s with the judges, landing him the gold.
