American golfer Stewart Cink has won his first major title with a surprise win over five-time champion Tom Watson at the 138th Open, at Turnberry.

Watson had been in the lead, but he missed a putt for the title on the 18th hole, forcing a four-hole play-off with Cink to decide the winner.

Cink went on to win the play-off by six shots, denying 59-year-old Watson an Open win 34 years after his first.

The top British players were Lee Westwood and Chris Wood.

They both finished the Scottish course one under par, which means they took one less shot than expected.

Meanwhile, for the first time in his career, world number one Tiger Woods didn't even make it into the second half of the tournament.

The 33-year-old was knocked out after finishing five OVER par in the earlier rounds.
