Red Bull's Mark Webber will start in pole position for the Grand Prix in Germany on Sunday.
The Australian was the fastest in qualifying, finishing ahead of Jenson Button who was third.
Reigning champion Lewis Hamilton equalled his best qualifying place of the season coming fifth.
Webber's performance puts him in a good position for his first win, and the 32-year-old said "This is a very special day for me."
