We went to meet our mayor

Press Packers Zoe and Megan meet their Mayor along with other school council members

Press Packers Zoe and Megan were invited to their town's council offices in Worcestershire to meet the mayor.

Here's their story:

"We are part of our school council.

And along with other school council representatives from other local primary schools, we visited our town's council chambers.

Students' idea

This was the idea of some of my friends at school who first wanted to meet the mayor.

But when we realised that the town had a council like our school council we wondered exactly what went on there!

So, the Mayor John Holden invited all the school council members from local schools to meet councillors and ask them questions.

Questions

The questions ranged from: 'What is the difference between a district council and a parish council?' to things like 'what is the town doing to make it an eco-friendly town?'

The day started with a tour of the council civic centre and then we did question time.

Not only did we all learn about the processes of local government but the councillors also learnt about how we, the young pupils of Stourport, care about the town and our environment.
