Police dogs die in hot vehicle

A police dog, not one of those that died

Two police dogs have died after being left in a hot vehicle outside the headquarters of Nottinghamshire Police.

The RSPCA were called to the Sherwood Lodge headquarters on Tuesday and found the two German Shepherd dogs dead.

An independent vet is examining the dogs to find out exactly what killed them, though another vet said it was probably due to the heat.

The Independent Police Complaints Committee (IPCC) are investigating what happened.

Dogs can die in as little as 30 minutes if they are left in a hot car.

Nottinghamshire's Assistant Chief Constable, Peter Davies, said: "This is a tragic incident and we value the important work our police dogs carry out on a daily basis.

"That is why we swiftly reported this incident to the RSPCA and we will be working with them very closely."
