Plans to charge for plastic bags

Plastic bags

You might have to pay a bit extra next time you go out shopping in Wales, as politicians there are planning to make shops charge for plastic bags.

The Welsh Assembly Government want to cut the amount of plastic bags people use, so they are set to unveil plans to put people off using them.

Plastic bags take 1,000 years to decay, so they're bad for the environment.

But some people are against the plans because they think the people who make the bags might lose their jobs.

It's thought 480 million carrier bags are used in Wales every year.

It costs about £1m to clear up carrier bags in Wales.
