Britain's oldest man is world's oldest

Henry Allingham

The oldest man in Britain has become the world's oldest living man, after the previous title holder died.

Henry Allingham was born on 6 June 1896, and is one of only two people left alive in Britain who fought in the First World War.

Henry lives near Brighton now, but was born in Clapton in London.

He has five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great grandchildren and one great-great-great grandchild. Pretty impressive!

Henry, who is the last surviving founder member of the RAF, has published his life story.

Tomoji Tanabe, who was the previous world's oldest living man, died in his sleep at his home in southern Japan, aged 113.
