Schools 'too safe' say teachers

Safety goggles

Schools are so worried about being safe that it's starting to harm kids' education, according to teachers.

Teachers were surveyed about health and safety and said rules meant to keep you safe actually got in the way.

Some schools have banned running in the playground and playing with conkers. In others, teachers were given a five page briefing on the dangers of glue sticks.

About half of the teachers who were asked thought that things like this held back kids' development.

Other rules which the teachers mentioned were making sure people wore goggles to put posters up and a ban on sweets because of the danger of choking.

But the other half of teachers asked disagreed, and said they didn't think health and safety rules held them back too much.
