I'm working to make things greener

Press Packer Daniel

Press Packer Daniel is part of a group that comes with ideas to help improve the environment.

The group - also called a think tank - wants everyone to go green.

Daniel explains why:

"Recently I found out I had been chosen to be part of the first green think tank that just includes children. It is called Our Planet, Our Say.

I was nominated by my mum who thought I should be involved because I have been interested in recycling and the environment since I was 10.

I have written a green column for my local newspaper and have taken part in lots of green activities.

I got involved with the think tank because I am interested in meeting people who have the same views as me about the environment.

A greener place

I hope we can put our points and ideas across to adults and politicians and make the UK a greener place.

I am involved in lots of eco-friendly activities.

Recently my school buried a waste time-capsule, which is a container that has rubbish in like crisp packets, yogurt pots and tins. We will dig this up in two years to see what has happened to it.

We hope this will show people what they are doing to their planet when they send things to landfill sites.

And at home I recycle as much as I can and try to turn off lights.

I also help people in my community by being part of a council waste and recycling group.

Top tips

My top three green tips are:

  • cycle or walk to reduce carbon dioxide emissions
  • recycle, even if it is difficult, because this will reduce landfill
  • turn off lights when you leave the room to save energy
