Rings star Lee gets Queen's award

Christopher Lee

Lords of the Rings and Star Wars star Christopher Lee has been made a knight by the Queen to celebrate her birthday.

Sir Christopher is one of lots of people who have been given awards to mark the Queen's 83rd birthday.

TV chef Delia Smith has been made a CBE and golfer Nick Faldo has also been made a knight.

Honours are given by the Queen to reward people for doing good things, although a lot of the people who get them are chosen by the government.

It's not just famous faces who get the awards though, with six lifeboat crew members and three lollipop ladies among those honoured.

Of the 984 people to get awards, the government says more than seven out of 10 are ordinary people.
