Lions claw win from Cheetahs

Keith Earls crosses the line

The British Lions hung on for a nail biting 26-24 win over the Free State Cheetahs in Bloemfontein, the third in their tour of South Africa.

Tries from Stephen Ferris and Keith Earls, converted by James Hook, took the tourists to an early lead.

But, after Ferris was sin-binned, Danwell Demas and Wian Du Preez scored for the Cheetahs.

Corne Uys's try, eight minutes from time, left the game dangerously close, but the Lions held on for victory.

3 June - WIN - Golden Lions, 74-10
6 June - WIN - Free State Cheetahs

And a minute from time it looked like the Lions were going to lose.

Luckily Cheetah's fly-half Louis Strydom's attempt at a drop-goal sailed narrowly wide.

The Lions' next challenge is taking on the Sharks on Wednesday 10 June.
