Yuri Zhirkov

Chelsea have finally started spending, bringing in Yuri Zhirkov from CSKA Moscow for around 18m. He's mainly a left-back, but can also play in midfield too.

Michael Owen

But perhaps the most surprising move of the summer so far is Michael Owen joining Manchester United. He cost the club nothing as his Newcastle United contract had run out.

Antonio Valencia with Manchester United's manager Sir Alex Ferguson

Wigan winger Antonio Valencia has signed a four-year deal with Manchester United that's rumoured to be worth 16m. But can he replace Ronaldo?

Roque Santa Cruz

Carlos Tevez may soon be playing up front with this man - Roque Santa Cruz. He's signed for Manchester City from Blackburn Rovers for around 18m.

Arsenal's first big signing was defender Thomas Vermaelen. The Belgian international joined the Gunners from Dutch side Ajax for around 10m.

Glen Johnson

Portsmouth's Glen Johnson will be wearing a red shirt next season, after agreeing a 17.5m move to Liverpool.

Cristiano Ronaldo

But that's nothing compared to the fee for Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo. Real Madrid agreed to pay a world record fee of 80m for the winger.

And that deal came just weeks after another huge Real Madrid deal. They snapped up Brazilian star Kaka from AC Milan for a whopping 56m to start their mega spending spree.

Gareth Barry

The first deal of the summer was a bit of a surprise. Manchester City were behind it, signing England midfielder Gareth Barry from Aston Villa for 12m.
