Scientists have bred monkeys that glow in the dark.
They've done it so they can one day find out how certain diseases affect us.
But is it wrong to do scientific tests on animals for our benefit?
Maybe you think it's wrong to cause suffering to animals what ever the cause.
Or perhaps you think the good that the tests do is more important?

"Animal testing is WRONG. All these animals get locked in cages and get tested on. It's just not right. I'd like to see the people who test the stuff on the animals and see how they would like being tested on!"
Sarah, 12, Glasgow, Scotland
"I think that animal testing is both right and wrong. Scientists need to find out things and animals can sometimes help them gain their answers, but animals can be mistreated and sometimes killed by scientists and their experiments."
Megan, 12, Kent, England
"I think with testing it should not be done on monkeys - it should be done on dung beetles or on animals which won't become endangered in the process."
Erin, 10, Newcastle, England
"I think animal testing is horrible, irrelevant and cruel. I know a lot of people say this but it is true, animals are living things too. Just like humans, they deserve a fair life like us. I think it is basically using animals, they have a purpose in life too and animal testing is taking their purpose and life away from them."
Scarlett, 12, Ipswich, England
"I personally think testing on animals is wrong - even on animals that kill. I think if people want to test they should make plastic animals because it would not hurt them."
Molly, 9, Devon, England
"It helps to save us from doing tests on humans as there could be hidden dangers and we are the important ONES."
Ben, 14, Devon, England
"I think animal testing is ok for medical things (as long as it is not monkeys or endangered animals) but it is wrong for make up and hair products."
Issy, 11, Midlands, England
"Animal testing is sick and WRONG! What kind of a person would want to use cute little animals for experiments like that? Anyone who believes in it needs to STOP, IT IS CRUEL! People test make up on bunnies, and they pour liquid in their eyes! For people who think testing is OK, how would you feel if someone did to you what they do to bunnies?"
Hanna, 12, Texas, USA
"I think it is right if the whole world were dying of a disease - what would you choose, the whole world dying or a few animals?"
Beth, 10, Suffolk, England
"Animal testing isn't wrong if they're testing for medical reasons, so they can find cures for diseases, but I don't like when it's for beauty products."
Ellen, 12, Reading, England
"Animal testing is cruel and disgusting. If you are desperate to find cures for things, test it on humans! We're the ones who will be getting the diseases anyway!"
Charlotte, 11, England
"I think testing is really mean - people hurting helpless animals. But SOMETIMES it is OK to do it because it's for the greater good. Mostly it's CRUEL."
Freya, 9, Bratislava, Slovakia
"Animal testing is seriously wrong because it's cruel to animals. No one would like it if they were the animal and had cosmetics tested on them and it went wrong!"
Emily, 12, Reading, England
"I think animal testing in some cases is wrong - like if you are testing lipsticks or soap. But if it does help to cure something like cancer, then I feel it's alright."
Zohra, 10, London, England
"Animal testing is wrong. The things they do to innocent animals are horrid. STOP ANIMAL TESTING!"
Joe, 12, Somerset, England
"I think animal testing is wrong even though it can save people from cancer. Maybe we need to find out how to communicate with animals first, in a way that we can ask them the question first."
Duncan, 12, Worcestershire, England
"I am completely devastated by animal testing. This cruelty has got to STOP! Imagine being in the position of these cute, vulnerable creatures. It is our duty to look after the well being of animals."
Anam, 11, Birmingham, England
"If you had a cat that you loved, would you be very happy if a scientist started pumping chemicals into him/her? Of course not, you love him/her. But what makes any other animals more important? Also, why do they even test make up on rabbits? They have completely different faces from us. Why can't people volunteer for make up testing, so they can see how nice it looks on a human face?"
Rory, 11, Belfast, Northern Ireland
"The glowing monkeys are really pointless. The scientists seem to want Marmosets to become extinct!"
Samantha, 12, Scotland
"Animal testing is AWFUL. There is nothing good about it, humans are just taking advantage over animals. It could kill them and it is really stressful for them. BAN animal testing!!"
Hannah, 13, Scotland
"It's OK to test on animals because we can test whether medicines are safe. If we didn't test medicine on animals, what would we test it on? Plants? Probably not. Humans? That would be against human rights and lots of people would complain."
Dan, 13, Northern Ireland
"Animal testing is AWFUL. There is nothing good about it, humans are just taking advantage over animals. It could kill them and it is really stressful for them. BAN animal testing!!"
Hannah, 13, Scotland
"I think that it is wrong. Animals belong in the wild and it is not fair on them."
"I think that if it would help to get a cure for cancer or diseases then it is good because it is saving thousands of people. I think that if the people who were against animal testing got ill, they would be grateful to have a medicine to save them."
Tabitha, 13, UK
"I think that people who think animal testing is wrong are just hypocrites, because I am sure if they were ill and were offered a medicine that had been tested on animals they would not refuse the help. I think some people are ignorant and don't know enough about it and all the laws that are involved in the process."
Chloe, 14, London, England
"Animal testing is wrong - whatever it is for. It really should be banned. What have these creatures done to us? They don't test on us."
Evan, 13, Kent, England
"I think it should be illegal to do animal testing but we could take samples, for example hair, and test them."
Aisha, 9, Islamabad, Pakistan
"I think it's completely within our rights to test on animals. If we started testing on humans then everyone would complain. What a lot of people don't understand is that without animal testing we will all die and animals DEFINITELY shouldn't test cosmetics on animals it is a waste of time and it is not right."
Faz, 13, Rochdale, England
"I think animal testing is disgusting. I don't think anyone would like it if they tried stuff out on you, especially if it is harmful to you! Do the animals feel any different? I don't think so."
Aisling, 12, Ireland
"I think animal testing is horrible!!! All the animals they test belong in the wild and they should stay in the wild! Animal testing should be illegal!!!"
Jaime, 10, England
"It is very wrong, what would you think if you had it done to you?"
Frankie, 11, Buckinghamshire, England
"I agree with animal testing if they are testing a medicine which could help humans. However, if it's for make-up, that's just cruel."
Chloe, 12, London, England
"I think it is wrong because it may be harmful to them."
Isobel, 7, Kent, England
"It's really sad. How would you like it if you were a rabbit and you had to put lipstick on huh?"
Meghan, 9, Fife, Scotland
"I think it is extremely cruel. Animals don't want to be tested on, they want to live a happy life and not be disturbed by scientists."
Amy, 10, Wiltshire, England
"It's horrible. Putting all those really cute unfortunate monkeys in pain so they can glow in the dark. No one wants or needs monkeys that glow in the dark!! It's appalling."
Sophie, 12, North Yorkshire, England
"YES! It's wrong, inhumane and sick. Abolishing such behaviour is necessary for us to be able to live in a world of peace. What hope do we have of respecting each other if we can't respect the creatures that lived here before us?"
Niamh, 12, Sussex, England
"I think that so long as it is for serious reasons, such as diseases prevention and not for fun, or finding a new soap then they can test on animals."
Alyssa, 12, London, England
"This is so evil!!! They shouldn't ever test stuff on animals. You can do lots of testing on vegetables instead."
Izzie, 11, Essex, England
"I think animal testing is wrong and we should ban all animal testing."
Kelly, 13, UK
"It's SO wrong, scientists should get charged with animal cruelty. How would the scientists like it if they were tested on? Someone should stop it."
Sophie, 12, North Yorkshire, England
"I think testing on animals is wrong, they don't test things on humans! The animals may get injured!"
Phoebe, 11, Lincolnshire, England
"What else are you going to test things on?"
Lucy, 11, Reading, England
"I love animals and what they do to them is wrong but we have to test on something."
Victoria, 11, Chester, England
"It is wrong! Why can't we test humans or something that's not alive!"
Annalise, 13, Essex, England
"Man has to dominate animal, though animals may suffer the things we test on animals improve our lives."
Harry, 13, London, England
"I think that animal testing is wrong because animals have feelings too. Also humans are also a species of animal, so it is a bit like testing on your family."
Addy, 12, Idaho, USA
"Yes it is wrong!!! What would we feel like it animals tested make-up on us? I think it should be against the law. I feel very strongly about this!!!"
Amelia, 12, Cumbria, England.
"I think it's really cruel and they should return them to the wild! Shame on the scientists!!!"
Luke, 12, West Midlands, England.
"I think that if tests were more humane, they would be okay. I would rather one rat die than thousands of humans who take toxic cold medicine. I will say it again, the problem is how humane the tests are."
John, 13, Berkeley, USA.
"Well we need animal testing to see if some medicines are safe. I think it's wrong but still without the medicine we could all just kiss the human race good bye!"
Megan, 12, Missouri, USA.
"It's right because if we didn't test drugs how would we know they were safe. Answer me one thing: if you were sick would you take drugs? You probably would so if you disagree to animal testing you're being hypocritical."
Little-Owl, 12, Sheffield, England.
"I think animal testing is wrong when they are testing makeup, but ok sometimes when it is for new medicines. When different companies perform the same tests because they don't want to share their findings, it is wrong because it causes unnecessary suffering. Also, there are so many alternatives we don't really need animal testing any more."
Gemma, 13, Warwickshire, England.
"I also think its wrong. You wouldn't like it if we were being tested. They have loads of feelings too."
Jaiya, 9, Walsall, England.
"I think animal testing is wrong as it is cruel and unfair. Why don't we test on humans and see how we like it!?"
Rebecca, 12, Lanarkshire, Scotland
"We think that animal testing should not be done as a rule, animals should not be bred simply for the sake of experimentation. How would we feel if animals tested us?"
Mrs Mo's Geography's Class, 11-12, Missouri, USA
"Some things can not be tested on humans. For example, if a new kind of vaccine for dogs is invented, it seems only right to test it on dogs. There are more animals used in the food industry in the UK than in animal testing. If make-up companies didn't exist, this number would be significantly lower."
Emily, 12, Norfolk, England
"I think it is wrong because maybe the animal will catch the disease or whatever they find."
Abby-Mae, 10, Hampshire, England
"I think they shouldn't test on animals because to be honest, if we're precious they're precious!"
Amethyst, 10, England
"I think animal testing is wrong because imagine if it was human testing. How would you feel?"
Rebecca, 10, Hertfordshire, England
"It is sometimes right and sometimes wrong. If we didn't test on animals then we would not have certain medicines. However, to test make up etc. on animals is very wrong."
Eve, 9, Stirling, England
"I hate animal testing. It's so cruel and I think we should find a more humane alternative, like testing on humans. Everyone AND everything has a right to say no, so we should stop animal testing immediately."
Georgia, 12, Cambridge, England
"I think tests on monkeys or any other animal is wrong. They should stop it now, because it is not fair for the animals. They should be in the wild, in a wildlife centre or have an owner (if needed)."
Lara, 10, Stoke on Trent, England
"Yes, it's wrong! What's the difference between testing things on humans to testing them on animals? I am vegetarian and feel strongly about animal rights."
Kara, 12, Scotland
"Of course it is wrong! Would they like it to be done on us? Animals have feelings too. How many monkeys had to die until they got the formula right? There has to be an easier way to find out how certain diseases affect us other than hurting these poor creatures."
Thomas, 10, Derbyshire, England
"I think testing animals is wrong because animals might suffer."
Lizzy, 12, Bristol, England
"It is disgraceful. With all this modern technology, surely there is another way to test out new ideas?"
Lizzie, 13, England
"I think that animal testing is alright because if we don't test medicines on animals then we have to then test them on humans and they could kill as people are not sure what they can do."
Betty, 12, London, England
"I think that it can be good and bad. If they are doing it for scientific reasons, such as finding out about diseases, then it's good, but testing for cosmetics is wrong. Doing things like injecting shampoo into rabbits' eyes is just not right."
John, 12, Birmingham, England
"50-50 because it's cruel to test on animals, but a lot of diseases couldn't be cured if scientists didn't test the medicines on animals first."
Rebecca, 10, Hull, England
"I think it is ok, as it stops us getting diseases."
Megan, 13, England
"I think it's sick. I mean, why is making a glowing monkey useful? If I had cancer, or something, and they found a cure by testing a monkey, I wouldn't be happy to know that a few monkeys died for me. It's sick, and it should stop."
Rae, 13, Lisbon, Portugal
"Animals are related to us in a way. We don't do experiments on humans, so why should we do it to them?"
Enya, 10, East Sussex, England
"I think it's wrong unless it's to do with the animals. If not, the testing should be done on us, because it might work on them, but not on us so they should stop it. It's cruel! Injections, nobody likes them really. You're getting a few injections, but they're getting loads!"
TJ, 11, Berkshire, England
"Animal testing is completely necessary for creating medicines and drugs. If animal testing helps to cure horrible diseases like Alzheimer's and cancer then why shouldn't we test? The thing that I think is wrong is when they test for stupid reasons like make-up."
Poppy, 14, Cornwall, England
"I don't care if the product could be harmful to humans, this kind of cruelty should STOP!"
Laura, 13, Manchester, England
"I think it's horrid and cruel! Just imagine yourself being tested all the time!!"
Georgia, 10, Harrogate, England
"I think animal testing is wrong because most of the animals get put down afterwards."
Ashley, 9, Scotland
"It's really horrid because animals should be left alone."
Sophie, 7, Kent, England
"I think animal testing is cruel and horrible. How would you feel if you were being tested on? It's like putting lip-gloss on rabbits!"
Jessii, 13, Northumberland, England
"We can refuse certain tests if we like but these poor animals are being forced into having them. It's really cruel and I can't imagine putting millions of poor animals in pain just so we can find out about diseases!"
Jenny, 11, Surrey, England
"I do think testing on animals is wrong. Why can't they do it on something like a toy bear, clothing or something that it won't harm?"
Laura, 12, Ireland
"Why do people who complain about animal testing never notice all the advantages? Without them we would all be sick."
Christopher, 11, Isle of Man
"It's so wrong. There are lots of protests against it and there was one were I live. I personally think that world leaders should listen to us and do something! SOA: save our animals!!"
Jade, 12, Hertfordshire, England
"I don't agree with animal testing at all. Animals are just as important as humans and that is why God made them."
Milly, 13, Manchester, England
"I think it's wrong because some of the animals die because of this."
Anna, 12, Essex, England
"Animal testing is wrong for beauty products, but somewhat right if it will help to test medicine that could save people's lives."
Alice, 14, Worcestershire, England
"It's not right to test on animals. How would people like it if we stuck needles in them and put shampoo in their eyes? Humans are the worst kind of animal."
Emmie, 9, London, England
"I think it is wrong most of the time but alright some of the time. It is wrong if they are purposely giving animals diseases and only trying to cure half of them - like when they want to test a new medicine and actually hope that half will die. That's just horrible."
Katie, 11, North Yorkshire, England
"I think that it is horrid, and should stop. Monkeys are just as important, and we are animals as well, so we shouldn't treat our fellow animals cruelly."
Charlea, 12, Kent, England
"Of course it is wrong! Would they like it to be done on us! They have feelings too. How many monkeys had to die until they get the formula right? There has to be an easier way to find out how certain diseases affect us than hurting these poor creatures."
Catherine, 12, Ireland
"I think it's wrong to test things on animals because they deserve to be wild, not to be tested on. On the other hand, sometimes it's very necessary to test life-saving drugs."
Rose, 10, Norfolk, England
"It is very wrong - how would we like being tested on without our own consent??"
Aimee, 14, Surrey, England
"Answer one question: if you were really ill would you take medicine to get better? If you have asthma, would you use an inhaler? Anybody who answers yes to that question cannot say they are against animal testing, as all these drugs would probably have been tested on animals. So saying you are against animal testing is completely hypocritical."
Jenni, 13, Bradford, England
"I think animal testing is horrible and it should be banned. Animals have feelings as well!"
Aurelia, 9, London, England
"I think it's alright because the animals are never going to find out or know what happened to them."
Benny, 12, Kent, England
"I think animal testing is wrong because the animals may become very ill and it might hurt them. It SHOULD be banned."
Chelsea, 11, Manchester, England
"I think that animal testing is so wrong because people, even if you haven't, these animals have got feelings. They go through so much pain with all the needles, sometimes they even die. How would you feel if that was you?"
Ilwaad, 11, Berkshire, England
"It is so wrong. Even though these animals don't get a second thought, they DO have feelings."
Megan, 9, Scotland
"I think animal testing is really wrong. Just because animals can't speak it doesn't mean they don't have feelings. You can see the pain and suffering in their eyes. It should be banned and the people who do it to the should have a taste of their own medicine!"
Lowri, 12, Cardiff, Wales
"I think animal testing is wrong because it kills animals as well as giving them diseases."
Josh, 10, Devon, England
"This is a really, really tough one. I think it's wrong when they test things like make-up on them, but sometimes testing medicine is okay as long as it doesn't hurt or kill them. Also, the poor animals don't have a say! They probably do not want things tested on them!"
Sarah, 12, Merseyside, England
"Testing animals is very wrong. You wouldn't like it if someone started testing on you would you? And then it all went wrong? It also depends what they are testing for. As much as I love make-up and shampoo it's wrong."
Zarafsha, 11, South Yorkshire, England
"It is so unfair! Would the evil scientists like it if they were tested on by monkeys?"
Tom, 11, London, England
"I believe animal testing is wrong. Animals have different reactions to us for example arsenic might be poisonous to us but its harmless to dogs. Imagine if that was you going through the unnecessary pain."
Ally, 14, London, England
"I think it's cruel and inhumane it should be banned and scientists should not be allowed to hurt animals just because they can't speak, it doesn't mean we can take advantage of them."
Steph, 13, Newcastle, England
"Animal testing is sometimes necessary for medical research and without it, how would we cure horrible diseases. However, when animals are exploited for make up testing, that is wrong."
Natalie, 13, Buckinghamshire, England
"It's not right but must be done, would you rather have it done for you?"
Matthew, 12, Dudley, England
"It's so wrong! Why do make-up companies do that? They should test their make-up on people xxx."
Elinor, 10, Wales.
"I think that animal testing can only be used when absolutely necessary and they should make sure there is very little suffering or pain involved."
Bob, 14, Birmingham, England
"Animal testing is barbaric and cruel, scientists who do that are monsters. I think that animals and humans should be equal. Animal testing should be against the law."
India, 11, London, England
"Testing on animals is wrong. How would you like it if they tested on you and it affected you badly?"
Maya, 11, London, England
"I think animal testing is really wrong because animals have as much of a right to freedom as we do. I love animals so much. It's just really cruel!"
Hannah, 10, East Sussex, England
"Animal testing is disgusting! I hate it! I want it to be banned!"
Rosie, 12, London, England
"Would you like to be prodded and poked and injected with all sorts of needles and stuff? Didn't think so. Just because animals can't speak doesn't mean they don't have feelings."
Gabrielle, 13, London, England
"I think animal testing is balanced and countered. Both good and bad because sometimes, if we don't want to suffer then we'll use animals to help us out or to cure a disease. Most of the time we may test them for other stuff like make-up which isn't very fair."
Riordan, 12, Cambridgeshire, England
"It is wrong to test on animals because how would you like it if you were tested on? They aren't even given a choice and many tests have been done without using animals. It is cruel."
Olivia, 14, Devon, England
"It's wrong, I wrote a report for a school test about this. Why should poor animals suffer being tested on?"
Belle, 10, England
"I think animal testing is wrong because animals are just as important as us. Yes, it can help humans and stop illnesses, but on the other hand if we carry on testing animals some of them might become extinct!"
Vicky, 11, Shropshire, England
"Well I think it's bad because animals have feelings too and it's not fair to treat another animal differently."
Shaun, 13, Gloucester, England
"As long as they don't do it too much I suppose but haven't they found out how a lot of diseases have affected us anyway? They shouldn't have to suffer. Nothing should. Humans can volunteer, but monkeys have to do it whether they like it or not. "
Cathy, 12, England
"It is wrong to do scientific tests on animals because the animals don't get a say in the matter. If it didn't hurt the animals it would be fairer. But to hurt animals and keep them for testing to help us is unfair. In a way it would be fairer to test on humans as they would have a say in the matter."
Alice, 13, Singapore
"I recently did a report against animal testing for a debate at school, I think this is awful though, animals may not talk and give you permission, but no one would like it, if they were this breed of monkey and were tested on."
Antonia, 11, Kent, England
"I think it's just about acceptable when they're helping to find a cure for cancer or Aids, but if it's something like make up testing and shampoo then I don't think it is acceptable. Surely we know enough about shampoo and make-up to create some which don't need testing on animals?!"
Nikki, 15, Dorset, England
"No-one cares, I don't! Animals aren't humans so they can't communicate with us, so I'm not sure if it's right or wrong."
Charlene, 11, London, England
