New American Idol winner crowned

Adam Lambert, Ryan Seacrest and Kris Allen

SPOILER WARNING. DON'T READ THIS STORY IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW THE WINNER OF THIS YEAR'S AMERICAN IDOL.

Kris Allen is the shock winner of the eighth series of American Idol, beating favourite Adam Lambert.

Almost 100 million people voted to pick the winner, and they went for Allen, even though Lambert had been tipped to win the show since it started.

Allen was seen as a nice well-behaved singer, while Lambert was perhaps more showy and exciting.

And it seems as if judge Simon Cowell thought Lambert would be the winner.

Kris Allen was stunned to win the show

After one performance during the show he said: "The whole point of doing a show like this is that you hope you can find a worldwide star and I genuinely believe with all my heart that we have found that with you."

As well as deciding which of the two acts were to win, the show also saw some music megastars take to the stage to perform.

Crazy

Black Eyed Peas, country singing star Keith Urban and rock stars Kiss all joined with Allen and Lambert.

Even after winning, Allen seemed shocked, saying: "It feels good, but Adam deserves this. I don't even know what to feel right now, this is crazy."
