Why I love being in the Girl Guides

Press Packer Sophie is a patrol leader at her Guide pack.

Here she tells us why she loves it so much:

"When I finished Brownies, I decided I would go to Guides as I had heard from my friend that it was really friendly and lots of fun.

When we go to the Guide meetings we are in Patrols. I am in the Bumblebees and am the Patrol Leader for them.

What I really like about Guides is all the many great things we do in a safe and supportive environment.

Some of the things we do include:- going to the Big Gig concert each year, trips, outdoor activity events such as camping or adventure days, high ropes, climbing walls, belly dancing, cheerleading, ice skating, sleepovers, pantomimes and many other fun things.

Two of girls from my unit have also been selected to go to Mexico this summer. There is just so much to do in Guides and I also look forward to meeting up my friends each week.

Everyone chills out and we have a good time together doing things in a girl-only environment.

I really look forward to the Big Gig each year as we get to see lots of famous pop stars perform live on stage in a big arena.

It is also a lovely day out as it is held in one of the major cities in the UK and we travel there by bus.

Also many of the other activities we do are fantastic too! For example we attempted to break several Guinness World Records. Amazingly we managed to achieve some new world records.

Since joining Guides I have achieved numerous badges for successfully completing a range of different activities. All of the badges that we do are an enjoyable challenge. They have helped increase my self confidence."
