Pope visits Italian quake city

The Pope has been visiting areas of central Italy which were devastated by an earthquake in early April.

Pope Benedict XVI, as he is known officially, visited the city of L'Aquila and it's surrounding villages which were all badly hit by the quake.

The Pope offered words of comfort to survivors, many of whom are living in tents after their homes in city and neighbouring villages were destroyed.

The 6.3 magnitude quake claimed nearly 300 lives across the Abruzzo region.

The Pope, who is head of the Catholic Church, said he admired the survivors courage, dignity and faith in the face of tragedy.
