Top four teams triumph

Fernando Torres celebrating
Fernando Torres celebrates scoring his second goal

Liverpool have thrashed Blackburn in the Premier League 4-0 with Spanish ace Fernando Torres scoring two.

The impressive result briefly put them at the top of the table.

But Manchester United reclaimed the top spot two hours later when they beat Sunderland 2-1.

All top four Premier League teams won their matches. Elsewhere Chelsea beat Bolton 4-3 and Arsenal won at Wigan 4-1.

Liverpool and Man U will be pleased with the wins after disappointing matches in the Champions League last week.

Liverpool had a far easier day. Torres scored his first goal with a spectacular strike after five minutes and headed in a second 25 minutes later. Daniel Agger and David Ngog also got on the scoresheet in the second half.

Saturday's Premier League results:
Liverpool 4-0 Blackburn
Chelsea 4-3 Bolton
Sunderland 1-2 Man Utd
Wigan 1-4 Arsenal
Middlesbrough 3-1 Hull
Portsmouth 2-2 West Brom
Tottenham 1-0 West Ham

Macheda to the rescue

Manchester United had to be rescued by their new star Federico Macheda for the second league match running.

They were level with Sunderland with only 15 minutes to go, when the Italian 17-year-old came off the bench to score the winner.

Man U are one point clear at the top of the table with one game in hand.
