Film review: Race to Witch Mountain

Race to Witch Mountain

Release date and rating

It's out now and rated PG.

The stars

The main star is Dwayne Johnson - aka the WWE wrestler The Rock - who plays Jack Bruno. You may also recognise Carla Gugino from the Spy Kids movies.

AnnaSophia Robb and Alexander Ludwig also star in the film as alien brother and sister Sarah and Seth.

The plot

When taxi driver Jack Bruno picks up two teens with supernatural powers, he suddenly finds himself in the middle of an adventure he can't explain.

It seems like everyone is out to get them as Jack is being chased by a group of thugs and the paranormal pair are being followed by not only an alien assassin but also a government group that wants to do scientific tests on the alien siblings.

Race to Witch Mountain

Working together, they realise that their only chance to survive and save the world is to unravel the secrets surrounding the mysterious Witch Mountain - a secret place in the middle of the desert which has been linked with strange sightings and UFOs.

And so the race begins...

Best bits

The special effects in this movie are great! The best bit would have to be when the aliens are showing Jack their supernatural powers - they can make objects fly around and move through solid walls.

The movie is also laugh-out-loud funny, despite being an action flick.

Fave characters

The lead character Jack Bruno is very likeable and he gets the best lines in the film. However, Junkyard the dog is also a great character and he has some funny scenes when Sarah uses her powers to talk to him telepathically!

Any weak bits?

The twins Sarah and Seth can get a bit annoying at times - as they are from a different planet they speak very formally which makes it difficult to like the characters, as you don't get to know their personalities.

The film is also a bit violent, especially at the end. It's not a scary film but at times it felt like they could have left out some of the violence as it wasn't needed for the story.

Hit or miss?

It's a hit - this film is a great family film and gets a thumbs up!

NR rating:

Four out of five
