Button races to shock F1 pole

Jenson Button at the Australian Grand Prix

The Formula One season has got off to an amazing start, with Jenson Button driving to pole position for Brawn GP.

Button blasted to the quickest time in qualifying, while world champion Lewis Hamilton starts from 18th position.

Hamilton's McLaren team have really struggled to get to grips with new rules that have been brought in this season to make races more exciting.

But Button's Brawn GP team - which raced as Honda last season - had no such problems with the rule changes.

The other Brawn GP car also had a brilliant qualifying session, with Rubens Barrichello finishing in second place.

Button and Barrichello's success is a fantastic story, as for a long time this year it seemed like they wouldn't be racing this season.

The team they drove for last season, Honda, pulled out of the sport and it was only when a new team - Brawn GP - was formed from what was left that they knew they'd have cars to drive.

But those cars have proven to be extremely quick in practice before the Australian Grand Prix, and now Button is tipped to win the race.

"Great start"

After qualifying Button said: "Going from not having a drive and no future in racing to putting it on pole here is just amazing.

"This is a great moment, not the most important of the weekend, but a great start."

You can watch how Button - and Hamilton - get on when the race takes place on Sunday morning at 7am on BBC1.

And if you press the red button during the show you can listen to special CBBC commentary too.

Just don't forget to put your clocks forward by an hour before you go to bed, or you might miss the start of the race!
