Call for more wind turbines

Wind farm in South Yorkshire

A wildlife charity reckons that lots more wind turbines should be built in Britain to help the environment.

The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) says that climate change is threatening lots of bird species.

They reckon that building more wind farms, which give us energy without making harmful gases, could help protect them.

They want a lot of research done to find sites that will not disturb rare or nesting birds.

Ruth Davis from the RSPB says that "left unchecked, climate change threatens many species with extinction."

Britain is one of the worst countries in Europe when it comes to wind power.

In 2007, just 2% of the UK's energy came from the wind, compared with 29% in Denmark, 20% in Spain and 15% in Germany.
