Liverpool boss signs new deal

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez

Good news for Liverpool fans - manager Rafael Benitez has signed a new deal to keep him at Anfield until 2014.

The Spanish manager finalised the contract on Wednesday, ending rumours that he was about to quit the Premier League side.

"My heart is with Liverpool, so I'm delighted to sign this new deal," he said.

"I love the club, the fans and the city and with a club and supporters like this, I could never say no to staying."

The news follows a week that's seen the Reds net two impressive wins.

First up, they beat Real Madrid 4-0 to go through to the Champions League quarter-finals.

Then they slashed Manchester United's lead in the Premier League by beating them 4-1 at Old Trafford.

Liverpool are now third in the table, just behind Chelsea, and chasing their first league title since 1990.
