A dramatic 90th minute equaliser from Glenn Whelan held Aston Villa to a 2-2 draw against Stoke at home.
Villa went ahead just before half time with a strike from Stiliyan Petrov. John Carew then doubled the lead and it looked like the game was settled.
But with three minutes to go, Ryan Shawcross headed in a James Beattie cross. And two minutes later Whelan brought the teams level.
Villa are still in fourth place, six points clear of rivals Arsenal.
A win would have extended their advantage over the Gunners to eight.
Blackburn Rovers celebrate
Elsewhere West Ham moved up to seventh place after clinching a 1-0 thoroughly deserved victory over Manchester City.
And Blackburn are out of the relegation zone on goal difference after a hard-fought 2-1 win away to Hull.
Bolton were celebrating their third win in four games after beating Newcastle 1-0.
