Family shocked by demolished house

A family in Northern Ireland were given a big surprise when they were woken up by what they thought was an earthquake.

Thankfully that wasn't the case, but it still came as a shock when they opened their curtains to see their neighbour's house being destroyed!

Even more surprising is that no-one knows why the building was pulled down, as local officials weren't told.

The house was around 100 years old, and was supposed to be looked after as a building of "townscape character".

That means permission has to be given for it to be demolished, which didn't happen in this case.

Caroline Richman, who lives next door to the demolished house with her four children, said: "Well initially I thought it was an earthquake.

"I thought I was dreaming. I leapt out of bed and looked out the window and saw to my horror that the house next door was being knocked down.

"I am still in a state of shock. I am horrified that this happened with us still in the house."
