Broccoli lizard to be kept as pet

Lizard

A family from Shrewsbury in the West Midlands have decided to keep a lizard they found in some broccoli as a pet.

One of the couple's daughters was helping her mum prepare lunch when she saw something crawling in the green stuff.

They gently pulled the creature out, and discovered the 10-centimetre long lizard!

Once the family got over their shock, they grew really fond of the lizard, and have named it Tenko.

The family found Tenko inside broccoli they had bought from Tesco.

Paula explained: "My daughter had been cutting the broccoli for lunch when she screamed, 'Mum come quick, come quick - there's something crawling in the broccoli'.

"I pulled gently and out he came."

The family took the creature to a local vet, who told them what it was.

A spokesman for Tesco said vegetables are checked before they are sold in the shop, but it wasn't always possible to control the natural world.

Loving home

He said: "We are glad that Tenko has found a loving home after what must have been quite a journey and something of an ordeal."
