'More kids worried' about divorce

The number of kids phoning ChildLine because they're worried their parents will split up is expected to rise.

The charity says in the weeks after Christmas it expects to get more calls from children who are scared their parents will divorce.

That's because as well as being lots of fun, Christmas can be really stressful and parents often argue more.

And it's thought this year lots of families will have been under even more pressure because of the cash crisis.

ChildLine boss Sue Minto said that children suffer a lot when the adults they love argue.

Everybody rows now and again, so if your mum and dad fall out, it doesn't mean they're going to get a divorce.

But sometimes the rowing can get so bad that couples may start thinking about separating.

Solicitors say they're expecting more people to contact them about getting a divorce after the Christmas holidays than at any other time of the year.

Stress

James Stewart, a lawyer who specialises in divorce, said: "A stressful Christmas is already often the final straw for marriages in trouble.

"The double whammy of Christmas and the credit crunch will make the first full week of January one of the busiest ever."
