Auckland in New Zealand was one of the first places to celebrate the beginning of 2009 with a massive firework display.
These fireworks were set off near the Sky Tower to mark the beginning of New Year celebrations.
Shortly afterwards a spectacular fireworks show from Sydney Harbour Bridge marked the start of the new year in Australia.
The fireworks were big enough and bright enough to be seen from space!
And it didn't take long for the rest of the world to join in... here's the London fireworks at the London Eye.
And Big Ben was lit up too. Around 400,000 people braved the freezing cold to watch the display in England's capital
