Auckland in New Zealand was one of the first places to celebrate the beginning of 2009 with a massive firework display.
These fireworks were set off near the Sky Tower to mark the beginning of New Year celebrations.
Shortly afterwards a spectacular fireworks show from Sydney Harbour Bridge marked the start of the new year in Australia.
The fireworks were big enough and bright enough to be seen from space!
