US alligator found in Australia

This might look like an ordinary American alligator, but it was found wandering around a campsite in the south of Australia.

Campers at the site in New South Wales managed to catch the creature in a volleyball net and held its jaws shut.

It's a mystery as to how the alligator got there.

Crocodiles are found in large numbers in the tropical north of Australia, while the American alligator is found in the south-east United States.

The two are only distant relatives - and can easily be told apart by looking at the shape of their head and mouth.
