Thousands of people in Brazil flocked to a lagoon in Rio de Janeiro to watch the world's largest floating Christmas tree light up.

Lighting the 85 metre-high tree, which is decorated with angels and Christmas bells, is a huge event in the city and marks the start of the festive season.

Church bells and Christmas songs will be played from a sound system inside the tree every night until 6 January, when it's taken down.
