Tourists stranded at Thai airport

Stranded tourists in Thailand

Thousands of people hoping to come home from Thailand are stuck there after the country's main airport was closed.

Some British people are stuck inside the airport in Bangkok, which has been forced to close by people who are protesting against the government.

A lot of people in Thailand aren't happy with the government there and want it to resign from power.

Hundreds of protestors are in control of the airport, and the man in charge of it says it is "totally shut down".

Airport director Serirat Prasutanon said that 78 flights - going in and out of Thailand - had been affected.

He added: "We are trying to negotiate with them to allow outgoing passengers stranded by the protest to fly."

The protestors are part of a group called the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) and they say they will not give up control of the airport until the government resigns.

There have been other smaller protests in other parts of Bangkok, and some people have been hurt by small explosions.

On 22 November around 18,000 protestors blocked the roads around the government building, stopping politicians getting to work.

There have also been gatherings of people who think the government in Thailand is doing a good job, with 10,000 marching near a temple in Bangkok recently.
