Good night for United and Arsenal

Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner

Manchester United and Arsenal have both made it into the next round of the Champions League, but Celtic have been knocked out of the competition.

The Scottish champions lost 2-1 away to Danish side Aalborg, leaving them stuck at the bottom of their group.

Had Celtic been able to finish third in the group they would drop into the Uefa Cup, but now they are out of Europe.

Arsenal were the only British team to win in Europe on Tuesday, while Manchester United drew their match.

Nicklas Bendtner was the hero for Arsenal at the end of a really tough week, smashing in a late winner for a 1-0 victory over Dynamo Kiev.

The match also saw Cesc Fabregas take charge of the team as captain, after William Gallas had the job taken away from him.

Gallas did play in the match though, and thought he'd scored until the goal was disallowed for offside.

Celtic fans thought their team's fortunes were about to change when they took the lead in Aalborg, as they have never won an away match in the Champions League.

But after Barry Robson scored with a header the Danish side hit back to level through Caca, and then defender Gary Caldwell scored an own goal which sent his team out of Europe.

Manchester United drew 0-0 with Spanish side Villareal - a result that sent both teams into the group stages.

Cristiano Ronaldo went closest to scoring for United, when he hit the bar, and late in the game a Villareal player was sent off after a bad tackle on the winger.
