X Factor charity single Hero has fought off competition from Rihanna to hang on to the top spot in the singles chart for a THIRD week.

The R&B star's Live Your Life leapt a mighty 37 places to number two, knocking Beyonce's If I Were A Boy into the third spot.

But the track sung by the 12 X Factor finalists, which is the fastest selling single of 2008, held onto number one.

Money raised from the sale of Hero is going to two charities.

Elsewhere in the charts, Strictly star Alesha Dixon climbed three place to five with The Boy Does Nothing.

Meanwhile, in the album charts, pop opera band Il Divo knocked Girls Aloud off the top spot.

And Welsh rockers The Stereophonics went straight in at number two, knocking the girl band into the third spot.
