England, Scotland and Ireland lost their Rugby Union matches on Saturday.

England were leading 14-12 early in the second half of the match against Australia, but fly-half Matt Giteau punished the hosts with six penalties.

Danny Cipriani landed two penalties, but Adam Ashley-Cooper's try 11 minutes from the end secured the 28-14 victory for the visitors at Twickenham.

Meanwhile, Scottish coach Frank Hadden said his team were "gutted" after losing to South Africa 14-10.

The Scots scored the only try of the first half and were leading 10-0 at halftime at Murrayfield.

England 14 - 28 Australia
France 42 - 17 Pacific Islanders
Italy 14 - 22 Argentina
Scotland 10 - 14 South Africa
Ireland 3 - 22 New Zealand

But the Springboks hit back strongly in the second half, and dominated until the last few minutes.

Afterwards, Scotland coach Frank Hadden said his team was frustrated after coming so close to victory.

"Everybody's absolutely gutted," he said.

"We knew the game was there for the taking.

"We were in the position we wanted to be at halftime and we just didn't close it out."

Later, Ireland completed the day of misery for the home nations, losing 22-3 to New Zealand at Dublin's Croke Park.
