Barack Obama has met George W Bush for the first time since his big election victory last week.
Mr Bush, the current president, and Mr Obama, the president-elect, shook hands at the White House, the president's official residence.
Both sides said the talks, which lasted just under two hours, were friendly and productive.
Meanwhile, Mr Obama's wife Michelle was given a tour of the White House by First Lady Laura Bush.
The huge building will be the Obama family's new home when Mr Obama takes over as president on 20 January.
After the meeting, Mr Obama released a statement saying he and President Bush had talked about a wide-range of issues.
The pair also talked about how important it is they work together during the transition period, as Mr Bush's Presidency ends and Mr Obama takes over.
