Hurricane batters Mexico coast

People walk by the sea during the storm in Puerto San Carlos, Mexico

Hurricane Norbert has battered the Mexican coast forcing thousands of people to leave their homes.

Winds of up to 103 mph (165 km/h) struck near the city of La Paz in Baja California, ripping off roofs and sending trees crashing to the ground.

Around 3,000 people living near the coast are staying in temporary shelters after the storm came ashore, bringing 4m high waves with it.

Forecasters have downgraded Norbert to a tropical storm.
