People try to contact aliens

No-one knows for sure if there's anybody out there, but messages are being beamed into outer space to try and find out.

Around 500 photos, drawings and text messages are being sent to a planet 20 light years from Earth.

They were chosen from suggestions people sent in to a web competition called A Message from Earth.

The topics range from the environment, to politics, world peace, and even family relationships.

The messages will be sent by a giant radio-telescope in Ukraine, which is normally used to track asteroids.

The planet they are being sent to was chosen because it's thought to be capable of supporting life.

But we'll have to wait a while to find out if there actually is anything living on the planet.

That's because any reply will take 40 years to reach Earth!
