Release date & rating
22 October 2008. It's a U so anyone can go to see it!
Zac Efron is back as a more grown-up Troy. He's got a six-pack and wears gel in his hair now!
Vanessa Anne Hudgens plays his girlfriend Gabriella again. Ashley Tisdale returns as show-off Sharpay, and on the basketball courts Corbin Bleu is back as Troy's best mate Chad.
There are a couple of new faces too. 14-year-old Jemma McKenzie-Brown from Yorkshire plays Sharpay's personal assistant.
The gang are back at school after working through the summer (in case you missed it, they danced their way round a holiday complex to make High School Musical 2).
Jemma McKenzie-Brown is new to HSM
It's Senior Year now, which means they're all supposed to be concentrating on exams and getting into college. But it's pretty obvious they're still going to find time to make one last musical together!
Along the way there are some difficult choices for Troy and Gabriella though, who could end up hundreds of miles from each other when they go to different colleges at the end of the school year. And just who is the new English girl following Sharpay around?
The dance routines are more spectacular than ever.
Troy and Chad make some shapes in a junk yard, and Sharpay manages to pull off some complicated moves wearing very high heels. If you thought her outfits were daring in HSM2, wait until you see these ones!
Gabriella (aka Vanessa) shows off her voice with some beautiful solos.
All the team have grown up and their acting has improved a lot.
Chad has some really funny lines in this movie. And I want to borrow all of Gabriella's gorgeous dresses!
Any weak bits?
Like all the HSM films, it is very cheesy and easy to predict what happens next.
There are lots of scenes involving Troy and Gabriella gazing into each other's eyes. I love romantic films, but I think some people could get a bit bored of watching them hugging and dancing together!
Hit or miss?
Definitely a hit. I preferred it to HSM2 - the songs and dances were much more dramatic. The cast is bigger because it is set back at East High instead of the holiday complex.
The ending reminds me of an old movie from the '90s called Sister Act 2. So if you love HSM3 you should definitely check that out too!

"I thought it was so predictable and mega cheesy. It was one of the worst films ever created. Out of 10 I give it 1/10. My opinion is that it was way too soppy."
Anna, 9, London, England
"I hate it! It's sad, soppy and so not my age!"
Aisling, 11, UK
"High School Musical is the best!!!! The music and dances are extreme, as well as the music. Zac and Vanessa looked so good together. It was unbelievable."
Charlotte, 11, Norfolk, England
"The best film ever; made me cry. I have seen it twice and I know all the song words!"
Georgina, 12, Kent, England
"I didn't enjoy it; it was too cheesy. They tried too hard :( "
Sarah, 14, Swansea, Wales
"It's better than the other ones. I particularly liked that it didn't have much kissing!"
"It was great, the best HSM film yet. A total must see. I've seen it twice already with my mates and family. If you haven't seen it, do!!!"
Caitlyn, 11, Wolverhampton, England
"I think HSM3: Senior Year is absolutely brilliant!!! If I were a movie critic I'd give this movie 10/10 and a thumbs up!"
Rea, 10, Slough, England
"High School Musical 3 was the best film ever. I loved the part where Troy and Gabriella danced on the rooftop. I also love all the dance routines, especially The Boys Are Back. I love all the songs and I thought Chad was very funny."
"I think it was good - the best yet but the cheesiest. HSM is a bit boring but they made me sit up for HSM2. I love the more pop-like songs. My favourite is A Night to Remember. My BFF and I made a dance. Anyone who likes HSM has to see it. THE MUST-SEE OF THE DECADE."
Charlotte, 10, Devon, England
"HSM3 is perfect for younger kids who like cheesy films but for me it was rubbish."
Grace, 13, London, England
"HSM3 is definitely the best High School Musical yet. I went to see it with my bezzies for a laugh but we actually all loved it. A definite improvement from HSM2. I would sooo recommend this to everyone!"
Rosie, 11, UK
"Cheesy, but a must-see. It'll have you dancing around and singing the songs for days. As good as the first two, but with a more serious and sad twist for Troy and Gabriella. Loved every second!!!"
Megan, 14, Manchester, England
"I thought it was rubbish. The first was the best and it still is. The acting was worse than ever. I think they should have tried better; I was very disappointed. WORD OF WARNING: DO NOT GO SEE IT!!!"
Karen, 11, Ireland
"It was nothing special. HSM and HSM2 were much better."
Anisah, 10, Edinburgh, Scotland
"It was good but I also found it a bit disappointing. I thought there would be more of Sharpay."
Khadijah, 10, London, England
"When my mum first said that we were going to see the film, I really didn't want to go, but after I saw it I said it was the best film I have ever seen and it was. I would recommend this film to anyone as it is so good. This film is the best and I just loved it. The new cast are brilliant and really twist the story for the better."
Katy, 14, Southampton, England
"HSM is my fave one of all three. I have seen it twice and if you have not seen it, you should!"
Molly, 12, Buckinghamshire, England
"The film itself was good, with an amazing script, the best songs yet and brilliant dancing. But it has always disappointed me that in these films, they are just acting and are actually a lot different and a lot older. Watching behind the scenes and seeing photos of the cast really ruin it for me."
Shannon, 11, Darlington, England
"I went to see this with my friends and we thought it was miles better than the first one, though maybe not as good as HSM2. My favourite scene was A Night To Remember. 9/10."
Amy, 11, Warrington, England
"I think this film rocks and I wish my life could be like HSM because it totally rocks!!!"
Alannah, 12, Stockport, England
"HSM was OK but after that the films all went down-hill. It's OK for younger children but not for older ones. The songs are cheesy and stupid. But it's OK to see with your friends for a laugh!"
Becky, 13, London, England
"Awful! Far too much romance that is turned to a cheesy plot and it is a waste of time. Highly predictable. Take your pillow and duvet to go to sleep if you are going to see it."
Sophia, 11, Stockport, England
"Best High School Musical by far! The dance numbers are phenomenal and the music is amazing. I have to say, however, it takes a while to get into the movie, and the storyline lacks a bit, but overall a very good movie. I highly recommend it."
Victoria, 11, Ohio, USA
"I thought it was jumpin', hilarious and romantic."
Liam, 13, Preston, England
"It was great. I went to see it with my sister; we had a great time. Everyone looks fab and I can't wait to see all the new stars get out there and do as good a job as the others did. We are all relying on you guys - go get 'em, Wildcats."
"A tad hard to follow and it wasn't as good as one and two, although my friend that I went to the cinema with thought that it was the best yet. It sort of seemed to come to an end and it wasn't really surprising - they can hardly have a College Musical, can they? Or can they?"
Matthew, 12, Sunderland, England
"I HATE the first two High School Musicals... and my cousin made me go to see the third one... I was shocked, because I actually liked it! A thousand times better than the other two!"
Jason, 12, London, England
"I went to see High School Musical 3 with my brother and my friends twice. I went a second time because I did not get the story the first time. I found it really cheesy and soppy. My favourite part was when Sharpay did her song, but overall I would give it 5/10."
Niamh, 9, Dublin, Ireland
"High School Musical 3 is the best one yet! It has three new characters and it's more funny and romantic. If you haven't seen it or don't like it, you're CRAZY!"
Beth, 9, Worcestershire, England
"I love High School Musical 3 because it is funny and I love all the music and songs. I thing it should go up to HSM5 because if it goes on to 10 it would get boring, because they would run out of ideas."
Summer, 10, Kent, England
"I loved it! The numbers are just out of this world in this one. I loved the junkyard song, because Troy and Chad danced fabulously, and I liked it when they went back to being little again. Also, I loved the song where Troy's in the school on his own, when the corridor turns upside down and he walks up walls - it's amazing! I just can't understand how they did that. Overall, it was brill!"
Hannah, 14, North Wales
"1/10. It was boring with too many romantic soppy moments. DON'T GO AND SEE IT; IT IS A WASTE OF YOUR TIME!!!!!"
Sophie, 10, Northern Ireland
"AMAZING, BRILLIANT, SPECTACULAR: those are just some of the words that describe High School Musical 3."
Louisa, 10, Gloucester, England
"Great film. A bit cheesy in some parts and it could have a better storyline and better last song; but overall, really good."
Olivia, 12, Gloucester, England
"I didn't like HSM3 at all. I loved the first one and adored the second, but they shouldn't have made a third. The only good bits were Sharpay and Ryan's songs."
Amber, 11, Watford, England
"It's a great film and once again, the songs are amazing (as is the choreography) but I think we all get sick and tired of watching Gabriella and Troy stand and gaze into each others' eyes and dance and cuddle. Once again, it is extremely cheesy and you can always tell how it will end. It is almost too perfect the way everything ALWAYS turns out fine... But that's just the way I like it!"
Jess, 10, Reading, England
"HSM3 is so cool and it teaches you that you should lead your life the way you want to, no matter what you leave behind."
Lucy, 8, Bristol, England
"I didn't really like the first two because they are tacky and so babyish but HSM3 is better because they've grown up and it's so much cooler!!!"
Ellie, 11, Suffolk, England
"Great! It was a bit noisy, but if I could give it a score out of 10, it would be 10!"
Molly, 8, Surrey, England
"I thought it was good, a bit cheesy and predictable, but it was better with Jemma in it."
Nel, 11, South Wales
"High School Musical 3 was fantastic! Anyone who's into singing, dancing, acting and showbiz should see it! Some bits are really funny too!"
Izzy, 11, Oxford, England
"I thought that the whole film was fantastic, and I especially liked the 'High School Musical' song at the end. Overall, it was a really good ending to their time at East High. Go Wildcats!!!"
Rebecca, 11, Liverpool, England
"The most anticipated film of the year (for teenagers) has finally arrived: High School Musical 3: Senior Year. The whole plot is very predictable and there are no real big twists, but it is full of very much real-life issues. As the team are heading off to college there are decisions to be made: prom night's arrived and who will be dates with whom? With 13 new songs and a few new characters, the makers haven't really pushed the boat out, but you do get a bigger understanding of some of the characters. There are a few funny lines, but it's not overly big on the humour side of things."
Mason, 13, Hampshire, England
"I think it is better, as it is more grown-up and the songs and dances are better!"
Alicia, 12, Liverpool, England
"I think that it wasn't, but the reason why is because there weren't as many songs and the songs actually weren't great. Sharpay wasn't bossy enough and it was also too much to do with the prom and university. Final word: boring."
Chelsey, 11, Stockport, England
"Mixed thoughts: it's really cheesy yet it's good for younger children. But thank goodness that this may be the last HSM film. It would get soooo BORING!"
Hannah, 12, London, England
"The best film out of all the High School Musicals. If they make a fourth, I don't know how they will top it!! It's the best film of the year!!!"
Lauren, 14, Lincolnshire, England
"I think HSM3 is very good because the songs are good and the dancing is romantic. HSM3 is the best out of the three films. Sharpay is nicer in this film and her song is very cool!!! You should watch it because you will love it so much and you will want to watch it a lot of times. "
Lala, 6, UK
"It is predictable but it is the best one so far!!!"
"I think HSM is rubbish. The first one was OK but now it's just cheesy rubbish!"
Bethany, 11, Wirral, England
"I love HSM3! I think that it's much better than the others! I don't think that there should be a HSM4 because they ended the last one so well it will just ruin it. Also, they won't be in High School anymore! I don't care if some people think it's cheesy - I think it's GREAT!"
Stephanie, 11, Essex, England
"I loved the movie. There was just one thing that I was a bit fed up of - there were far too many songs in the movie. After two minutes, another song then after another two minutes, another song... But I still think HSM3 was the best out of them all!!!!!!"
Shamima, 11, Blackburn, England
"I am not the biggest fan of High School Musical, but I went to see it with my friend and I thought it was quite good. It is the best one so far!"
Ellie, 9, Surrey, England
"I went to see the film with my little sister, who loved it! I think the acting has got much better and mature. We can't wait to see if there is a High School Musical 4!!"
Chelsea, 13, Leeds, England
"I thought it was really good. The songs were amazing but the bits with love and romance were a bit cheesy! But overall I thought it was a very good film."
Harry, 8, Portsmouth, England
"It was brilliant! The singing and dancing were better than ever before. All the films are great but I must say this was the best. Sadly it's the last time we see all the original cast together! It was such an enjoyable film; it's the kind of film you want to watch again and again. Personally my favourite song is 'I want it all' because Sharpay is my favourite character and they really made that song special. Yet again Troy and Gabriella make such a cute couple! My rating: must see! 10 out of 10!"
Ya-Yeanor, 10, London, England
"It was a great film. The songs and choreography were just amazing. The only thing I think could have been a bit better was the storyline, but it was a very, very good film!"
Libby, 13, Lancashire, England
"I think HSM3 is better than the first two because it is more action-packed."
Emily, 10, Norfolk, England
"It was a bit soppy, but better than HSM 1 and 2. The songs were really catchy!"
Rebecca, 12, Derby, England
"When I went to see this film I expected a fantastic movie with really catchy songs, but instead I got a dull movie with dull songs. It was really boring having to watch Troy and Gabriella hugging all the time and her voice is really annoying! The plot was too simple. I can't believe that there is going to be HSM4 - I know I'm definitely not going to watch it! 2/10!"
Kim, 12, London, England
"I think it was the best movie of the three! I loved the junkyard song between Troy and Chad. Also the one where Troy is in the school! Yes, it had a tendency to be cheesy but I don't think that should keep anyone from seeing it! It was a spectacular movie and should have got a five star rating - I think!!"
Leah, 12, Dublin, Ireland
"HSM3 Was fabulous. I'm not usually into HSM, especially the second one which was way too cheesy. It was great but I nearly cried in the bit after the picnic in Gabriella's bedroom! It was all so emotional because everyone was upset about leaving East High and all their friends - it just reminded me of leaving junior school but not going off to some huge college miles and miles away!"
Danu-Katherine, 12, East Sussex, England
"I LOVED HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 3!!! I prefer it to High School Musical 2!!! I've been to see it twice already and I'm hoping to go see it again!!! Both times I cried about three to five times!!! Lol!!! It's really great and if you haven't seen it... WHAT ARE YOU DOING STILL SAT THERE? GO AND SEE IT; YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!!! It really is one of the best movies ever made!"
Christina, 13, Doncaster, England
"I thought it was a great film but you have to really, really like musicals because it is a very big musical. All the cast are great; they're bigger and better!!! I really loved this film."
Chloe, 10, Kent, England
"I thought the film was really good. My sister agrees. I would go to see it again."
Abby, 11, Dublin, Ireland
"SIGH!!! They just don't give up do they? The film is completely RUBBISH. Cheese, cheese, cheese with extra cheese on top!"
Kath, 12, Wirral, England
"I think it shows a good example of how to cope with the stress of leaving your friends behind to have a better future. I found the movie so heart warming, especially the relationship between Troy & Gabriella."
Leigh, 10, North Ayrshire, Scotland
"HSM3 is the best yet! It's so good!"
Sian, 7, Cheshire, England
"The film was the best yet. The new girl was a surprising character and very mean!!!"

"High School Musical 3 was fantastic; I loved it. The good thing was that it had more performances and it was a massive improvement from the other 2 and definitely the best."
Daniela, 11, Kent, England
"The movie was so... BORING! I nearly fell asleep, it was the most boring thing I have ever watched."
Kim, 10, Newham, England
"It was a great film, the best of 2008. The dancing and singing was amazing. I can see why it is such a hit all around the world!!"
Phoebe, 10, Sunbury, England

Annie, 11, Dublin, Ireland
"It was exactly how I thought it would be. However, I did enjoy the songs, and I really liked the fact that Kelsi had a much bigger part."
Rosie, 13, Reading, England
"I went to see High School Musical 3 on Sunday and I thought it was great. All the songs and dances are wicked! Much better than the 2nd one."
Lara, 13, Nottinghamshire, England
"This is rubbish. The songs are pathetic, the acting is cheesy and predictable, and this entire trilogy is frankly slightly annoying."
Jordan, 13, Nottingham, England
"When High School Musical first came out it was brilliant, but now they're all the same and a bit predictable."
Aimee, 12, Yeovil, England

Ciara, 9, Glasgow, Scotland
"It was really, really good. I'm going again in the half term."
Tasha, 9, Portsmouth, England
"I thought it was very good and better than High School Musical 2. I rate it a 5/5. My fave bit was Zac's solo."
Katie, 10, London, England
"I went to see HSM3. My little sister loved it. I was very disappointed, It made no sense and was totally unbelievable."
Sean, 10, Stockport, England

Jodie, 12, London, England
"Better than the first two combined :D!"
"It's amazing; better than the first two put together. I'm going to go back and see it again!!"
"High School Musical 3: Senior Year is simply amazing - there is much more drama, dancing and romance. I love all the songs because they are catchy. I prefer HSM3 to HSM2 because you get to see Troy and Gabriella's relationship really grow and you get to see how much they like each other."
Romaisa, 10, London, England
"It was rubbish - Sharpay's dancing was good but otherwise it was a bit too romantic and boring. I think it persuades older and smaller children to get involved in romance rather than life and studies and I feel life is not for romance; there are much more things in life to do."
Haris, 10, Birmingham, England
"HSM2 IS THE BEST SO FAR! I think the trailers gave a bit too much out and it was so cheesy and you knew what was going to happen next. There wasn't really a twist."
Zahra, 12, Peterborough, England
"I watched it as soon as it came out. It is brill. I think it's better than the last two!!!!!!!!!!! Loved it. Woop woop!!!!!!!!! I hope there's another one out next year."

"It's fabulous. I saw it on the day it came out. It's better than the other movies, I must say! The songs are better and I loved every second of it :D."
Katy, 12, Liverpool, England
"I loved it. It was really cool - better than HSM and HSM2. It is really cool but has too much romance with Troy and Gabriella."
Yosma, 11, Manchester, England
"I have never liked HSM but I had to go and see it with my sisters. What can I say - it was TERRIBLE. If I were them I would carry on with acting but next try to be in a movie that is less cheesy."
Michelle, 14, Coventry, England
"I think the film was OK, but nothing special. I preferred 1 & 2. I think they may have rushed it and they could have come up with a better storyline."
Lauren, 13, Manchester, England
"It's the best movie I've ever seen. It has romance and lots of great songs. It's so excellent, I want to see it 15 times."
Andrew, 9, Reading, England

Griseldaa, 10, Cumbria, England
"HSM 3 is better than 1 and 2 because the story is clear and true to life"
Bethany, 8, Leicestershire, England
"High School Musical 3 is way better than the first two. I really enjoyed it and I was the first one in my whole school to watch it!!"
Felicity, 12, Haringey, England
"I went to the premiere of HSM3 and found it Rubbish - HSM and HSM2 were much better! HSM3 did not have a good plot and was very cheesy as well. It was very soppy and had too many romantic scenes with Troy and Gabriella. However I loved the new character and the dance routines."
Megan, 12, Fulham, England
"I don't see what all the fuss was about! To be quite honest, I think that it has been overrated by the press and therefore made me expect more than I got."
Libby, 12, Manchester, England
"I think it's much better than the first 2. They were kind of annoying."
Lizzie, 9, Ealing, England
"It is great, well worth watching. How could they do some of them moves?"
