Next time one of your toys runs out of batteries, you should think twice before throwing the used ones in a bin.
From today a new European law means the UK has to make a much bigger effort to recycle the batteries we use.
At the moment only three in every 100 old batteries are recycled. The new law means we now need to recycle 12 batteries for every 100 we use.
That number will rise in coming years, and the government have to put new facilities in place to help us.
If not enough old batteries are recycled then the British government could be fined by the EU.
Batteries are packed full of chemicals, and it's not good for the environment if they're allowed to leak out when old batteries are binned.
