Brown to help children get online

Gordon Brown at the Labour conference

Prime Minister Gordon Brown has given one of his most important speeches at a meeting of his political party.

Mr Brown has been under pressure because at the moment polls suggest his party might not win the next election.

In the speech he told members of the Labour Party he would give money to help a million poor families get access to computers and get online.

He also said he would work to end child poverty by 2020, and make sure British schools were world-class.

Recently, some political journalists have been saying that other Labour members want a different person to lead the party.

They think a new party leader - who would then become the prime minister - would give the party a better chance of winning the next election.
