In pics: US struggles to recover from Ike

People in America are trying to get their lives back to normal after Hurricane Ike swept through Texas last weekend.

The storm left behind a trail of destruction. The top picture shows what the Bolivar Peninsula looked like BEFORE, and the bottom one shows what it looked like afterwards.

Loads of people left their homes before the hurricane landed.

So there were HUGE traffic jams when people tried to return. The queues to Galveston were so big on Wednesday, people were turned back at the bridge to the island.

Lots of people are still without power, and it might be next week until the electricity is switched back on.
