Actor 'should be next Doctor Who'

Russell Tovey and David Tennant

The man responsible for bringing Doctor Who back to life has revealed who he thinks should take over from David Tennant as the next Time Lord.

Russell T Davies, who is stepping down as lead writer and executive producer next year, suggested Russell Tovey as the next Doctor.

The 26-year-old actor played Midshipman Frame in last year's Christmas special.

Davies also revealed that he wants Harry Potter author JK Rowling to star in this year's Christmas special.

Will we be seeing JK in Doctor Who?
But he said David Tennant isn't too keen on the plan.

"David doesn't like the JK idea, he thinks it sounds like a spoof, so we've paused slightly, wondering whether to win him round or just abandon something that he's not going to be happy with," Davies said.
