Spurs hold Chelsea to a draw

Darren Bent celebrates

Tottenham earned their first point of the season as they held Chelsea to a 1-1 draw.

Michael Essien hit the bar, nearly sending Chelsea ahead. But they took the lead when Darren Bent's clearance bounced in off Juliano Belletti.

But Bent made up for his mistake when he slotted home the equaliser after Frank Lampard accidentally knocked the ball his way.

Spurs managed to hold off Chelsea's attacks to the end of play.

Meanwhile, a pair of goals from Shaun Wright-Phillips helped send Manchester City to 3-0 win over Sunderland. Stephen Ireland also scored.

And in a fairly dull match Aston Villa and Liverpool held each other to a goal-free draw.
