Has YOUR playground ever been vandalised?

Play equipment with graffiti

A six-year-old boy had his thumb torn off after he caught it when he slid down a vandalised slide in a playground in Blackpool.

Leon's parents are now warning of the dangers of damaged equipment, and say more should be done to repair things in parks and playgrounds when they're broken.

So we wondered what YOUR playground is like?

Has it got loads of cool equipment and is well looked after? Or is it old and damaged, and covered in graffiti?

This topic has now closed. Check back on the Chat page for other things to talk about.

Your comments

"The park that I go to is starting to become messy but mostly the teenagers that mess it up just hang around and intimidate everyone there."

Eleasha, 10, Leeds, England

"My park is stunning! It has no rubbish, dogs' mess or cracked glass. It has lovely equipment that has no graffiti. I love it."

Izzie, 9, Italy

"I think that vandals are just ruthless and they don't care about how kids feel when they go to the park. My local park is covered with rude words!"

Mandy, 12, New Zealand

"Yes, our playground is vandalised by the older kids in the village. They do graffiti, they write their names in permanent marker and they break the swings. They throw cracked eggs down the slide, they dump rubbish on the floor, they spill drinks on the swings, they leave beer bottles and the pub's drinking glasses everywhere. The council fixes everything but the next day the same thing happens again."

Deanna, 12, South Wales

"My local park is always vandalised. The equipment is broken and has spray paint all over it. When I was at primary school, our playground got vandalised and writing on the walls. It is horrible!"

Daisy, 5, Glasgow, Scotland

"In my junior school, we had an adventure playground. But sometimes we couldn't play on it because of people tying up the swings, breaking the wood and writing messages and graffitti on the walls. My school have to use up alot of their money for repairing the damages."

Beth, 12, Donnington, England

"It annoys me that every park is vandalised just because teenagers don't have anything else to do!!!!"

Zoe, 12, Kendal, England

Rebecca, 10, Barnstaple, England

"Yes, the swings are always broken and the slide has always got graffiti on it."

Luke, 12, Stoke-on-Trent, England

"My local playground is vandalised, but not much. There is not much writing but a few things had to be taken down because of it."

Aisling, 11, Galway, Ireland

"My park is always being vandalised. Everything in it has either been destroyed or written on. The equipment has writing on it, it is broken, dirty or burnt down. It is so annoying, what mum would let their kids do it?"

Holly, 12, London, England

"Our park is clean and is not vandalised that is only because we just had it done up. Before people had pulled parts off and written all over the slide etc."

Willow, 12, Ashford, England

"I've seen some teenagers vandalise my local playground. I think they do it because they're bored."

Christian, 11, Romford, England

"No my playground has never been vandalised. I don't know how people can do it, it is so silly."

Emily, 10, Stockton-on-Tees, England

"There are some playgrounds in Chesterfield that lots of teenagers hang round. They tend to rip up the rubber floor, destroy the swings, draw graffiti on slides and leave rubbish. It's not very pleasant!"

Jacob, 11, Chesterfield, England

"Our playground is regularly vandalised - part of it was burned and it's been graffitied and everything. It's just so annoying. I wish these people would think what they're doing."

Franny, 10, Somerset, England

"Adults should go and check that everything is safe and if it isn't, fix it ASAP."

Chazzii, 13, Surrey, England

Kira, 11, Bradford, England

"My local park has been vandalised so much that the local council was forced to knock it down, but now I've got nowhere to hang out and play!"

Harman, 12, Buckinghamshire, England

"Why do they do it? What about when they were children - would they like it? The swings have been taken away from the park where I live. There are other parks but they are a long walk from where I live. I think there should be a playground for over 11s and a park for under 11s. Or there should be a board for them to do all the horrible things that they do in the park. It is not fair. Why do they do it? I feel sorry for people who have got hurt. STOP IT."

Chloe, 9, Lancashire, England

"My local park has had all the equipment replaced after many teenagers vandalised it. They are only doing it as there is nothing else to do."

Katrina, 10, England

"I have been to lots of playgrounds that have been vandalised and no-one is doing anything about it. Now the park is abandoned."

Aamir, 12, Gloucester, England

"Nope, never. All the parks I have been to have been fine and our playground is good. Sometimes there are teenagers there but they don't do anything."

"Our playground is very vandalised it has lots of graffiti."

"Our local playground is great, it's never been vandalised but there is a bit of graffiti. It was replaced a few years ago because it wasn't very good and the equipment was very old."

Lizzie, 12, England

"The back of the baby swing in our park has completely been torn off, and the park paint has been worn away and is going in people's nails."

Becky, 11, Hoddesdon, England

"A park near my house was really badly vandalised - glass everywhere and a loads of different dangerous objects. People began to complain and the council totally demolished the park and someone even made a tree swing when the park was at its worst, now the park is a great place to be and I hope no one decides to ruin it again!"

Anya, 13, Hull, England

"Our park has been vandalised with spray paint. The swings have been thrown round and round the top pole and most of the equipment have been broken by vandals and have been taken out of the park. Now it's boring for little kids. It's so open that dogs that are off the lead do their business in there too, so that is lying about as well. They should have security cameras to stop vandalism."

Sarah, 14, Northampton, England

Lorie, 11, Henley-on-Thames, England

Katie, 12, Southend, England

"I hate vandalism. It would be lovely to have a park with no vandalism because every time I go to the park there's always writing on the fences and walls and loads of teenagers that keep swearing and scaring you. I wish there was a nice peaceful park somewhere."

Jonah, 7, Oxford, England

"In my area there are five different parks. In all there are broken swings, graffiti, torn floors and they are used as a rubbish dump. The people who do it just don't have any respect and they ruin everybody else's fun!"

Amelia, 12, Bridgend, Wales

"Yes my old school playground was vandalised and we were not allowed on it for a whole term!! We used to sit indoors at playtimes... it was BORING!!!"

Lizzie, 10, Ascot, England

"Our local playground used to have graffiti all over it, but the council came and cleaned it up. I just think the people who vandalise playgrounds are just being plain selfish. The place has been built for people to play in, not for people to destroy."

"My playground has been vandalised, it seems like it is vandalised every day. It always has glass in it, and on the swings sometimes there is only one rope!"

Gregory, 10, Isle of Wight

"No, it's never been vandalised because it's protected by big gates. I think it's wrong to vandalise playgrounds and parks, because it upsets children and they don't get to play out. They are just being unfair to people, the world's not about them. Those people should think about what they're doing, before vandalising anything."

Laura, 10, Northamptonshire, England

"My local park is vandalised with graffiti and some rides can get dangerous - it annoys me because I can not go on all the playground activities."

Nadia, 10, London, England

"The playground near me is perfectly safe. They only took down a tiny hammock because it had been broken off and a swing had been broken after too much weight was put onto it. Rachel, 12, Belfast, Northern Ireland

"Yes loads and LOADS! It's horrible and people let their dogs on it despite the sign, and worse they don't pick up their dogs' mess. I don't think this is fair. They complain about kids being obese, and yet they don't give us anywhere to play outside, at least not nice places."

"There are lots of parks near me but they are all vandalised. It is really annoying because the parks are always dirty."
