A metal lunchbox saved an eight-year-old girl's life when part of a wall fell on her, according to her mum.

Cerys Donovan-Morgan suffered cuts and bruises and a fractured bone when the brick pillar collapsed as she lent on it in Penllergaer, near Swansea.

Her mum, Rebecca, said the lunchbox was flattened by the pillar, saving Cerys from being more seriously hurt.

"After it happened we realised we were lucky," she said. It could have been

far worse."

Cerys had been waiting for her mum to pick her up after a summer play scheme when the accident happened.

Ms Donovan-Morgan said: "I thought Cerys had broken her arm. She was very upset, she screamed and then she went quiet, she was shaking.

"But the lunchbox had protected her body by cushioning the force of the bricks and saved her from serious injury or even death."

Cerys was taken to hospital, but later allowed her home to recover.
