Lots of celebs like David Beckham and Amy Winehouse have them, but what do YOU think of tattoos?
A 10-year-old boy from Essex has been left with lifelong scars after a temporary henna tattoo he had done on holiday went wrong.
So has that put you off getting one done or would you do it anyway?
Maybe you prefer the stick-on sorts or dream of having a proper permanent tattoo when you're older?

"I think tattoos might look good when you are young, but you have to keep them for life! And they look weird when you are old. I also think a lot of people regret getting them when they are older."
Chris, 13, Newcastle, England
"I think the small ones of butterflies, dolphins and stuff like that is OK, but only if they are from a school fair or something like that. Anyway, David Beckham looks dumb with all that yuck up his arm."
Ruth, 8, Epsom, England
"Well, I don't like them. I think they are stupid right now at the age I am, but when I am older I might change my mind."
Megan, 11, Scotland
"I think tattoos are wrong because they hurt. Plus younger people are getting them just for the sake of it."
Layla, 11, Norfolk, England
"Tattoos are ridiculous. When people have them, they think they look "cool" when they're just a waste of money."
Kirsty, 12, Rugby, England
"We always use brown henna especially on special occasions. I've never had any scarring. Brown henna tattoos can look very beautiful if done by a professional."
Tabby, 14, Bradford, England
"I think a permanent tattoo is a waste of time because they are too expensive and tacky! I would get a brown henna tattoo."
Cara, 12, New Zealand
"Tattoos are great, but not the ones where you stick needles in and the black henna ones, only the ones you can rub off easily."
Marian, 10, Ingleby Barwick, England
"I think tattoos are sometimes really funky and sometimes really disgusting depending on what it is of. I don't think it's good to cover your whole body with tattoos of skulls and things like that because you may not like them later on, and sometimes the ink fades or smudges and looks messy, but I quite like little ones you can get on your ankle, I know someone who has a blue butterfly tattoo one her arm and it looks great. Nobody should say that they don't like ALL tattoos because one day, you might come across one you do like!"
Olivia, 11, Winchester, England
"Right now I like tattoos as long as you just get a small one that you can hide if you want to! I want a little thing of Chinese lettering on my shoulder like my 27-year-old cousin!"
Niamh, 10, Armagh, N. Ireland
"I absolutely HATE tattoos. I'm never ever going get a tattoo. My advice is if you want a tattoo only get a small non-permanent so you probably won't get your skin damaged."
Mary, 8, Birmingham, England
"I think they are OK but you should have those checks like you do when you have your hair dyed."
Samantha, 12, Belfast, N. Ireland
"Tattoos are silly. All they show is that you are silly enough to go through the pain. I would never have a tattoo. The ones that go on and come off with water are enough for me."
Jessica, 9, Brixham, England
"I think tattoos are OK, so long as you don't have them all the way up and down your body! A small tattoo on your ankle is acceptable but David Beckham, switch suits!"
Rabia, 10, England
"Tattoos are terrible! They are pointless, and I agree with Taylor! They could damage your skin and EEEW!!! The horror! *ghastly voice* THE NEEDLE!!!!!!!"
Seja, 8, Australia
"I think that tattoos are just disgusting. Whoever has a tattoo is stupid. They're not making their body look nice, they're scarring themselves for life."
Samira, 10, London, England
"I do tattoos on my hands with henna and it is normally fine even though I have severe allergies. And I think normal tattoos must hurt because of the needles. OUCH!"
Leyla, 10, Earlston, Scotland
"I think a tiny tattoo that you cannot see easily can be harmless and look cool but huge ones ruin your skin, look horrible and look even worse when you get older."
Bryony, 13, Brussels, Belgium
"I think they are OK, I have no objection to them, I just wouldn't want one myself. I think people should be prepared to accept the consequences if they get one."
Louise, 12, Woking, England
"I think when people are teenagers they always want one especially boys, and when they have one they forget it's permanent and when they are old and grey they will probably regret it."
Charlotte, 12, Peterborough, England
"When I went to Turkey I got a henna tattoo and I had no bother with it but my twin's came out in a rash and she nearly fainted. I think tattoos look extremely tacky and rough - you wouldn't want a tattoo of a butterfly on your arm aged 80 would you?"
Carla, 13, Newcastle, England
"I like tattoos but not big ones, I think it's OK to have a small one that you can hide if you want to!"
Kimmi, 12, London, England
"I think henna tattoos are fine, the ones where you can just buy a packet, and then just stick them on with water. But I don't like the idea of having a permanent tattoo, because it costs loads to get it off again."
Natasha, 11, Leicester, England
"I think tattoos are pointless and a waste of time. It's like injecting poison into your skin!"
Hamna, 11, Aberystwyth, Wales
"I think that tattoos are OK, but when you're older you might regret having it done! Also, it must hurt having ink injected onto your skin. I was going to have one on my back when I was older but when my brother had his done he said it really hurt! So now I've decided to think again!!"
Helen, 13, Wales
"I think that people who have tattoos are just stupid because it doesn't make them look cool and it's a waste of time."
Shannon, 12, Channel Islands, UK
"I don't like tattoos and sometimes if it goes wrong you can get blood poisoning."
Sarah, 11, Surrey, England

Tiffi, 11, Hertfordshire, England
"Tattoos are disgusting! They brand your skin and there are lots of things that can go wrong. Stick-on ones are fine, but real ones are horrid. Some jobs and careers don't even allow you to have tattoos. I'd never get one!"
Shannon, 13, Bristol, England
"I think it's a bad idea if you're trying to impress somebody, but if you're really the kind of person who does it because you like tattoos, then it's OK."
Ro, 12, Winchester, England
"Two years ago my brother and I got black henna tattoos when we were in Majorca. It got itchy and our skin went all flaky and bubbly and it was really sore. Mum had some aloe vera cream and put it on our arms and it healed up well, but we still had the scars for about two years afterwards. They have faded now - hopefully the same will happen to Charlie, and it will fade after a while."
Jemma, 11, Londonderry, Northern Ireland
"I think tattoos are alright if you know who is doing them. But I also think you should only have them if, firstly, you are of the right age and secondly, if you have them done professionally and at a proper parlour. Parents are mad to let their children have tattoos under age, but in the end it is their own choice."
Heidi, 13, Burton-upon-Trent, England
"I think tattoos look nice, but I would wait till I was old enough to get one and I think if you are going to get a tattoo it should be small!!"
Eilish, 10, Scotland
"There's nothing wrong with them as long as you're not getting your boyfriend's name or something that you will regret."
Sian, 14, Middlesbrough, England
"I think they look disgusting and horrible. I would never have a tattoo in my life - not even temporary tattoos!"
Bethany, 10, Gloucester, England
"I think having a tattoo can look OK at first, but after a month most people wish they'd never had it done and if it can get infected why take the risk?!"
Alice, 12, Cornwall, England
"I think tattoos are OK. It depends on what you get: if it's just a small one, it looks nice. But if you cover your whole body it can look like you don't care about your body. Tattoos are all about showing off and showing what you have an interest in."
Katie, 13, Scotland
"I hate tattoos. People who have tattoos are just show-offs."
Helen, 10, Stockport, England
"I think tattoos are a good idea if you really love someone and just want one of their names somewhere unnoticeable. But I think celebs like Amy Winehouse are crazy for covering themselves in permanent ink. Imagine her when she's 70 years old... YUCK!"

Lydia, 12, Essex, England
"I think tattoos are awesome! They can look really beautiful. I can't wait until I can get one!"

Shannon, 11, Wolverhampton, England
"I've had temporary tattoos before and they've done no harm. I think real tattoos are silly and ruin your natural skin."
Phoebe, 10, Essex, England

Isabella, 9, Bath, England
"Tattoos are stupid, why would you want to mess up your body with horrible black marks? They will look even worse when you're elderly if they're permanent.
Bethan, 14, Gloucester, England
"Tattoos are horrible!! They can look cool, but you don't know what can happen if you have them done. Temporary tattoos are nice but again you don't know what can happen."

"I think it's cool if the tattoo is just a design and not to represent something you might have a different opinion on later. And you are probably better off with black instead of colour, you shouldn't do it when you are feeling emotional and shouldn't do it while your friends are around in case they are trying to pressure you into getting a tattoo you don't want."
Ellie, 13, Plymouth, England
"I think tattoos are bad because they harm your skin."
